Bloody Sunday
€8.95
Starring James Nesbitt, Tim Pigott-Smith and Gerard McSorley
January 30th 1972 - Bloody Sunday
Starring James Nesbitt (Cold Feet, Waking Ned, Lucky Break) as the civil rights leader Ivan Cooper, Bloody Sunday is written and directed by Paul Greengrass.
Based on testimonies from both soldiers and marchers. This film isinspired by Don Mullan's harrowing book, ''Eyewitness Bloody Sunday'', and follows Ivan Cooper through that fateful day: Sunday 30th January, 1972.
Cooper, a middle class Derry protestant, was then at the forefront of the civil rights movement and had just been elected MP (with a 99% Catholic electorate). Cooper had called for a massive peaceful march to show once and for all that the people of Derry were against the inequalities inherent in the electoral, penal and even housing systems of the day. Stunningly portrayed by Nesbitt, Bloody Sunday shows a good man, who faces obstacles from all sides as he tries desperately to do the right thing. This is a remarkable account of what happened on that day, a day when the celebration of free expression turned to terrible tragedy.
